Common Rental Car Problems in Morocco

Most rental cars in Morocco are reliable, but high mileage, heat and rough roads mean some problems come up again and again.

Punctures and bad spares

The most common issue. Check the spare at pickup — it's often under-inflated.

Weak batteries

Heavily used rental batteries fail in the heat. Clicking when you turn the key is the classic sign.

Dashboard warning lights

  • Red temperature or oil light: stop driving immediately.
  • Orange engine light: usually safe to drive slowly to a mechanic.
  • Battery light while driving: the alternator may not be charging.

Damage from tracks

Low cars scrape exhausts and oil sumps on stony tracks. Drive slowly and avoid sand entirely.

Working with the rental company

Always inform the agency first. We're used to talking with rental companies and can send them photos and a diagnosis so they can approve a local repair.
